Woodside Pluto Train 2 LNG Project Case Study

Woodside Pluto Train 2

R-Group provides Communication Services, Village Entertainment, and CCTV for Woodside

Woodside’s Pluto Train 2 project facilitates domestic gas supply from the Scarborough gasfield off Karratha. It will lead to the export of around 8 million tonnes a year of LNG, and the delivery of around 1400 PJ of gas to the WA market, securing our long-term energy needs.

R-Group was chosen as a preferred supplier for the project due to our reputation for reliable and flexible service, experience and knowledge in the industry, and our status as a licensed telecommunications carrier.

R-Group is responsible for the deployment and installation of communications infrastructure and services, village entertainment systems, and CCTV capabilities to Woodside’s Pluto Train 2 Workers’ Accommodation in Karratha. The Accommodation Village will house up to 2500 personnel working on Woodside’s project.

Project Objectives:

  • Deploy core fibre infrastructure providing the backbone of the wireless and village entertainment solution
  • Provide residents with connection to family and friends back home at Pluto Train 2
  • Ensure all services provided align with Woodsides standards
  • Peace of mind with availability of ongoing network support

The R-Group Solution:

R-Group deployed an Active Ethernet solution due to its high performance and reliability. The installed architecture allows for transmission to each room to facilitate the delivery of camp entertainment services content along with the capacity for internet services for social media and internet browsing by onsite personnel.

As part of this solution, R-Group also supplied and installed CCTV services and a complete Chromecast management system to allow personnel to cast from personal devices.

Ongoing 24/7 support as required in accordance with the SLA provided to Bechtel. An SLA window has also been provided to Bechtel if any further support is required on the system.

The Results:

  • Internet and TV including content streaming across the entire village providing Woodside workers with a ‘home away from home’ experience.
  • Increased reliability and performance for residents at Pluto Train 2 Accommodation Village
  • Deployment of Network monitoring to view the status of all equipment and services in real time
  • Scalability and flexibility to suit Woodsides future requirements.

Woodside Partners:
